This is my daughter, Deborah, modeling her birthday present, a sweater knit from a Vogue Knitting pattern. I am Karen's friend from Portland and she says I need a witty introduction. Maybe later. I have knitting to do! I cast on tonight for the Autumn Tam by Sandy Blue. It is winter now, but better late than never.

I love that neck, that is so pretty.
Deb is 14. She is a pretty good knitter herself, but mostly knits for her teachers and friends. I knit her enough things that she is not motivated to knit for herself. As you can see, she is very rewarding to knit for, as she wears handknits so beautifully. Thanks for the comments!
Posted by: Anne on February 16, 2004 08:38 PMThe collar is a mobius strip. The body of the sweater is knit with two strands of yarn held together, and the collar is knit as a separate tube with one strand only (so it is thinner, but the material is doubled because it is a tube. Does that make sense?) When the tube is the proper length, it is twisted once and grafted to the cast on edge. Then the mobius ring is sewn onto the neckline of the sweater, as a collar. It looks really great and was worth the effort. The pattern is from a Vogue knitting magazine a year or so ago, and if anyone really wants to know exactly, let me know and I will look it up for you. I knit the collar watching the movie "Freaky Friday" last summer, so it was not tedious at all. Great movie knitting.
