Swatch
I'm so excited about this swatch, I had to post. This is Rowan Yorkshire tweed 4-ply on #2 needles, at exactly 9 stitches/inch. I'm excited because it's a design I've wanted to knit for a long time. Look familiar, anyone?

I'm fairly sure it's subtitled A Celtic Key Sweater, anyway :-) Did you by any chance swatch any fair isle on a 3 or 3.25 needle to see how the gauge compares to shetland jumperweight? I haven't gotten around to it, and there are curious folks out here!
Posted by: Sheila on October 14, 2003 12:58 PMOoh, ooh, I know, I've swatched that beast to no avail in 2 different yarns! I don't think that I will ever make it, however, as my knitting style seems to be unable to make those purls pop enough.
The folks at VY had the noive to tell me it would work in heb 2ply, but it was like stuffing a size 8 foot into a size 6 shoe!
Posted by: CarolineF on October 14, 2003 01:11 PMOh PS I should have said it's Aberlady. And Sheila, it is indeed the same key pattern used in Alba, just with purls instead of colors. Herself makes a point of that in the book I believe.

Sheila, I haven't done a fair isle swatch yet (I hate swatching FI, much as I love knitting it). The yarn is definitely a little thinner than shetland jumper-weight so it will probably knit a little tighter. The stated gauge for the FI vest in Yorkshire Fable is 7.5 spi.
