Sampling-along

I've made some progress on the sampler stole. These four motifs are "elemental" motifs. Many of the larger lace patterns involve these basic motifs in combination with one another. So far, the spider webs (top) are my favorite - these were so fun to knit! Next I'm going to start knitting larger panels of the more complex, "combo" patterns. This is slooow going, but most addictive!

It's *so* pretty! How many stitches did you cast on? I like the spider web best, too, followed closely by the next one to it. If my computer is agreeable to connecting to the internet tonight I will try to post my progress, which is not nearly so well developed as yours.

Linette, I may yet be inspired to knit a Shetland sampler shawl. That is truly lovely.

Thanks, Sheila and Angela! I cast on 145 sts. I kinda wish I had made it just a wee bit wider, but for my first "serious" lace project, the 145 st width works out well because it's not overwhelming. I'll try to compensate later by choosing an extra wide edging.

Wow!!!

Wow that's beautiful. Someday I may have the patience for something so fine.

Now I suppose you are going to have to create social occasions solely for the purpose of wearing this.

The sampler stole in GOL only starts with 99 stitches - don't remember what kind of edging it has.

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous. As is everything I've seen of your Linette. So inspiring. I can't wait to play with my cobweb and skinny needles. It's just so pretty. What yarn is it that you are using? Is that J&S cobweb? What do you think of it?

OOooohhhhhhhhhh LINETTE !!!! Be STILL my heart that is, bless me, the lovliest piece I've seen lately and I have been looking. Please, please tell me more about the pattern(s) you're working with and what fiber you're doing this with?

linette, the hexagon looking pattern if part of the legends of the shetland seas pattern. your sampler is looking great!

Thank you for all the compliments, guys! Yes, this is J&S cobweb. I like it a lot - it's very crisp and knitting with it is much easier than it looks. The lace patterns are from Sharon Miller's Heirloom Knitting. Vanessa, I did notice the hexagon pattern in Sam's LOTSS. I'm sure there will be other similarities.

Linette,
Your sampler is really wonderful. What a great idea for trying out different patterns. I'm might have to try one myself.
After looking through the archives I was wondering if you have done any more on Marina. That's such a beautiful pattern.

Thanks, Louise. Marina is in the top three of my list of WIPs, but I haven't touched it since I posted about it here. Such is life.
