Hello! A great big thanks to Madame for setting up this virtual soiree. I have been wanting to start a blog for some time, but with 3 monkeys in the house, I'm afraid that I won't have enough time or content to retain interest in my own blog. This, I think, will be the perfect solution!
Yesterday, I was sitting on the couch enjoying my two hours of peace and quiet, knitting away on a lovely stockinette sleeve for monkey #1, when I realized that I was starting to doze off. Not a very frugal way to use the precious peaceful time! I suddenly realized that I needed a project to stimulate the gray matter. A miracle WIP, so to speak. Hmmm...I know I have a lovely aran WIP here somewhere. So I went digging through the closet, and there, beneath an open bag of size 5 Pampers, lay the antidote to my malayonaisse...

This project was started some 5 or 6 years ago when I attended a knitting retreat sponsored by Sisu Designs in Ely, Minnesota. The project is titled, "Aran Cardigan", and is being knit in Tahki Chelsea Silk. The yarn is a lovely navy, with flecks of purple. At the rate of 8 rows per year, I should be able to wear this to monkey #3's college graduation.
Posted by at July 24, 2003 12:09 AMWow, Jen, that is a gorgeous piece of Aran there. Is the yarn still sold or is it discontinued? How do you like working with the silk with so much knotwork? Is it 100% silk or silk/wool or silk/cotton?
Posted by: Sheila on July 24, 2003 12:47 AMUmmm. Errr. Did I say "Jen"? I meant Ima Sue.
:-)
Well, need I saw gawgeous? Really beautiful color, and the pattern is fabulous. Nice work, Ima Sue. :-)
Posted by: Cheveux de Lin on July 24, 2003 12:54 AMIma Sue, that's beautiful! Love the color. For a second there I thought you were being literal about living with 3 monkeys, LOL! You never know!
Posted by: Linette on July 24, 2003 04:07 AMDearest Sheila,
I'll excuse the slip this time :-)
The yarn is 65% silk, 35% wool, and discontinued. It has that lovely (ugh) silk smell. In about 18 years, I'll be asking ya'll (that's the southern in me) how to get rid of the smell.
I like working with the yarn, it has a lot of body to it. And the color is so pleasing. This is my first aran, so I have nothing to compare it to as far as ease of doing knotwork.
I'm glad you like it.
Ima Sue
Dear Linette,
If only I had one of those voice recorder thingies - you would know that I do truly live in a zoo and am the keeper of 3 monkeys. Back to the bedtime ritual...
Posted by: Ima Sue Keeper on July 24, 2003 05:00 AMJes' lovely, Ima Sue! We do love them cables! And the color is to die for - I'm a durn fool fer those tweedy yarns with little flecks o' color.
Re Tahki Chelsea Silk: Although it has been discontinued for a few years (can't imagine why Tahki did this), I think it was around for quite a while; so, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some languishing in some LYSs or in various stashes.
Posted by: Faylene on July 24, 2003 03:25 PMChe bella, Ima Sue! And get this: I, too, am knitting a sweater of Chelsea Silk. When I hold the back piece up to the monitor, it looks a shade tealer blue, but also with the purple flecks -- but who knows, since I have no ball band to ask the shade. This is the second time I've knit this yarn -- I'm recycling a sweater I made in the 1980s, when I didn't know a thing about gauge (or much else!). Love the coincidence here at the Tea. Ciao~
