Eris is started
Yep. In Barn Red Andean Silk(I have another cabled sweater going in nearly the same color - what was I thinking?). This is the first time I have used this yarn. It is an extremely good value.
What I have learned about the yarn.
- The sheen is gorgeous.
- It didn't like my crystal palace OR my clover needles
- It is slightly splitty - most yarns with silk in them are
- I would like it to be plied a little tighter - but YMMV
The pattern is beautifully written. I had one question and two comments - they were answered on the same day. I didn't buy Rogue when she came out of it - I don't think it is a sweater for those of us who are square instead of rectangular. This sweater will look good on anybody.
It is a fascinating sweater to knit. My neckband is exactly on gauge with a 3mm addi. I normally knit very loosely - and I wasn't sure if I was going to make it. So, I took a trip to my LYS and picked up a spare #1. I might move the neckband on to it - I am having to knit rather tightly for me on the 3mm. I will decide later probably.
The owner of my local yarn shop is one of the nicest people in the world. A woman who managed to RUIN a $45 ball of noveltyish yarn while trying to BALL IT came in. She wanted help fixing the yarn (I offered) but said she had no time to do it. Then she talked about knitting a cashmere teddy bear for her first grandson (or maybe great grandson). I tried to talk her out of it (and into touch me). I have knit really small teddy bears for all my godsons and reasonable sized ones for me. I would never consider doing one in cashmere. This is a woman who has probably never knit on anything less than a size 11.
I left before Brenda started to explain to her customer the facts of life. Cashmere is just NOT going to hold up for a teddy - no matter how good the knitter is. Touch me probably won't either - but at least it is thicker. And what is she going to stuff the teddy with? Inquiring minds want to know.
I never use a row counter except for sleeves.- but if you are going to knit eris - use one for the neckband.
No pictures - the camera is in Scotland with morgan.
I am wondering if I can finish the neckband before knitwits tomorrow. I started it a few hours ago, but am doing things other than knitting. Mostly reading this fascinating book on language history (NOT historical linguisitics) Empires of the Word. I thought I knew something about the fertile crescent, but this book has done wonders to teach me more. I haven't left the fertile crescent yet (after all, I have a job and a family), but if the rest of this book is as good - I would recommend it to anybody with curiosity.
Which will win - the book or the neckband? Cooking is out of the question - so I stopped at the bakery for sandwiches (they make amazing sandwiches). Enough to keep me fed through Monday's lunch. I don't have to worry about feeding mg because he is visiting his father. I love his father and stepmother - but there is no comfortable place for me to sleep there, and travel is just not that comfortable for me.
Work is getting interesting. More on it as I talk to my newest manager (the VP).
